Women’s Tennis Drops Season Opener to Big Ten foe Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team lost its season opener at Big Ten foe Purdue Sunday afternoon at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
The Cardinals had some new and familiar faces on the court today. In doubles, veterans Elan Malykh and doubles partner Ella Hazelbaker were off the court first after falling to Purdue's duo of Tara Katarina Milic and Carmen Gallardo Guevara, 6-2. The Boilermakers would also take court three from Ball State to secure the first point of the match. The top court went unfinished, but Sydney Hrehor and Annika Planinsek were knotted at 4-4 versus Purdue's Csilla Fodor and Kennedy Gibbs.
In singles, the Boilermakers took straight set wins at all seven positions. Ball State did take one or more games from Purdue in the first and second sets on all seven courts. Hazelbaker was the closest competition of the day in singles versus Ashlie Wilson at the No. 6 position. She fell by a score of 7-5, 6-2.
The Ball State women's tennis team will return to the court at home on Saturday, Jan. 27 against Cleveland State at 1:30 pm ET.
