Throwback Thursday: Regan Lewis High Jump All-American in 2018
June 08, 2023 | Track & Field
This week's #ThrowbackThursday features 2018 All-America high jumper Regan Lewis who, prior to Charity Griffith's fifth-place, First Team All-America performance last season, was Ball State's most recent track All-American.
Â
Lewis became the sixth outdoor track & field All-American in program history. She was the first since Amber Williams placed 10th in the 100m hurdles in 2007. Lewis was the second Ball State student-athlete to earn outdoor All-America honors in the high jump, joining two-time honoree Bonita Harrington (1984 & 1983).
Â
Battling cold, rainy and windy conditions at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, and making her first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Lewis was one of only 11 high jumpers to successfully clear 1.78m which allowed her to tie for 10th overall and earn Second Team All-America accolades.
Â
"What an incredible season," head coach Brian Etelman said. "I am so proud of Regan for being reliable and a gamer all season long. A 10th-place national finish is quite an accomplishment."
Â
The three-time defending Mid-American Conference high jump champion, Lewis started off strong by clearing 1.73m on her second attempt. She was one of only 17 competitors to successfully clear the opening height, while two others passed on the mark.
Â
After missing her first two attempts at 1.78m, Lewis put herself in contention for the national title by clearing the bar on her third attempt. Unfortunately, despite three solid attempts, Lewis could not clear 1.82m in the adverse weather conditions.
Â
Overall, only three competitors were able to clear 1.82m, with UT-Arlington's Alexus Henry earning the national title.
