Peltier, Scheffler, O’Donnell Earn ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 2023 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-Region Teams were announced for all eight regions on Tuesday. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee. Ball State was represented by Ryan Peltier, Decker Scheffler, and Trennor O'Donnell.
"Great to see these three outstanding student-athletes recognized for their accomplishments," said Head Coach Rich Maloney. "Each of these players have worked very hard to improve their game and have represented Ball State in a first-class manner. This honor is well deserved."
Peltier earned his first all-region honor with his first team nod. He finished the season tied for 54th in the NCAA with 68 runs scored, which led the Mid-American Conference. He produced a batting of .338. He led the Cardinals with 54 RBIs, 18 doubles, and 15 home runs. He posted a slugging percentage of .629. He tied for a team-high three triples. His three home runs against NIU are tied for the most in a single game for conference contests. Defensively, he tallied 72 assists and added 41 putouts from third base. Peltier was selected to the All-MAC First Team as well as the MAC All-Defensive Team.
Scheffler picked up his first all-region honor with a second team accolade. He won the batting title in the MAC with a .449 batting average in MAC play. He finished with a .378 average on the season, which led the team. His batting average is tied for 62nd in the country and fourth in the conference. He tallied 49 RBIs, 46 runs scored, 13 doubles and eight home runs. He tied for the team lead in triples with three. He collected 125 putouts and added two assists defensively. Scheffler was selected to the All-MAC First Team.
O'Donnell landed on an all-region team for the first time of his career. He finished the year with a 2.93 ERA, which is tied for 37th in the NCAA and second in the MAC. He tallied 97 strikeouts, which were tied for 61st in the NCAA and fourth in the MAC. He posted a 5-4 record with one complete game. He led the staff with 92 innings pitched. He made 16 appearances with 15 starts. He was named to the All-MAC Second Team. He saved his best two performances for last. He threw a complete game in a win against Kent State in the MAC Tournament, where he struck out eight and gave up just one unearned run. He followed that with a strong showing in the NCAA Regional against Kentucky, where he went 7 1/3 innings with five strikeouts.
