Women’s Tennis Earns Second Straight Win, Topping Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - - The Ball State women's tennis team set the tone early Saturday afternoon, earning 6-1 wins on doubles courts two and three on its way to a 6-1 victory over Youngstown State.
Allison Mulville and Mariya Polishchuk were the first doubles tandem off the court, securing the win on the No. 2 court. Amy Kaplan and Annika Planinsek were not far behind, locking up the doubles point on court three.
Meanwhile on the top court, Jessica Braun and Emily Desai earned a hard-fought 7-6 (7-3) win to complete the three-court doubles sweep.
Moving over to singles, the Cardinals won the first five matches to secure the overall team victory. Polishchuk earned the first point with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles.
Mulville followed with a 6-2, 6-4, victory at No. 6 singles, while Planinsek secured the match for the Cardinals with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 4 singles.
Elena Malykh would go on to take the No. 5 singles match, 6-2, 6-2, while Braun gave Ball State its final point of the day with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles.
The Ball State women's tennis team will look for its third straight victory next Saturday (Feb. 18), when it hosts Western Kentucky at 1 p.m. The Cardinals will also host Oakland next Sunday (Feb. 19) at 1:30 p.m.
Both matches are slated to be played at the Northwest YMCA in Muncie.
