December 12, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State women's volleyball head coach Kelli Miller Phillips welcomes another championship level performer to the latest incoming class with the addition of transfer Gwen Crull (Madison, Wis. / McFarland / Bowling Green).
"We are excited to add Gwen to the program," Phillips said. "She will bring physicality to our middle position as well as a strong net presence. She really fit in well with the team when she came on her visit, and I felt like she has strong leadership qualities that will benefit our young team. She likes to compete and understands the work required to be a great attacker in the MAC. We are thrilled she will be joining us for the spring semester, and we are ready to get in the gym with her and get going!"
Crull will join the Cardinals for the 2024 spring semester after spending last season playing for Mid-American Conference rival Bowling Green. She will be a sophomore athletically for the 2024 fall campaign and have three years of eligibility for Ball State.
She played in 12 matches and 30 sets for the Falcons, registering 23 kills and hitting .311. She scored a collegiate high five kills versus Ohio State (Aug. 26) and versus Northern Illinois (Sept. 22), while finishing the campaign with 25 total blocks.
Prior to her collegiate career, Crull was a four-year letterwinner at McFarland High School under coaches Trish Fortune and Tommy Moriarty. She helped guide the Spartans to a 125-21 record over her high school career, including state runner-up finishes as a freshman and a junior. Her squad also advanced to the state semifinals her sophomore season.
A 2022 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) High School Honorable Mention All-American, Crull finished her senior season with 412 kills and a .453 hitting percentage. Her hitting mark was the second highest in the state of Wisconsin and ranked 19th among the nation's middle hitters.
A three-time First Team All-Rock Valley Conference selection, she was also a First Team All-State honoree as a senior and a Second Team All-State award winner as a junior. The McFarland Volleyball Offensive Player of the Year and Team Glue award winner as a senior, she finished her four-year prep career with 878 kills and 334 blocks.
A property management major, with a minor in interior design, Crull also played one season of club volleyball for VC United 171.
Crull joins the incoming class which includes Sophie Ledbetter (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern), Niyah Lester (South Eculid, Ohio / Charles F. Brush), Elizabeth Tabeling (Edgewood, Ky. / St. Henry), Carson Tyler (Pavilion, NY / St. Mary's) and Riley Whitlock (Lafayette, Ind./William Henry Harrison) who were announced in early November.
