CLEVELAND - - For the second time this season, and the fourth time in her career, sophomore freestyle sprint specialist Payton Kelly has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week.
Kelly continued her dominance in the pool last weekend, picking up four individual victories and teaming up for three relay wins to help Ball State improve to 3-0 (2-0 MAC) in dual action with wins over IUPUI (171-119) Friday and Eastern Michigan (160-140) Saturday.
Kelly's winning 50 freestyle time of 23.16 and first-place 100 freestyle effort of 50.83 against league foe Eastern Michigan were the fastest of any MAC swimmers last week. In addition, her first-place wall touch of 1:52.14 in the 200 freestyle against IUPUI was the second-best in the league.
Kelly also threw in a pair of impressive anchor legs to guide the Cardinals to come-from-behind wins in the 400 medley relay (49.71) and 200 freestyle relay (22.52) versus the Eagles.
