Garberick Earns MAC's First Swimmer of the Week Honor This Season

CLEVELAND - - After earning a pair of individual wins last Saturday in the season-opener at UIC, Ball State senior breaststroke specialist Joey Garberick has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week.

Garberick turned in the fastest 200 breaststroke in the MAC so far this season, winning the event against the Flames with a time of 2:04.28. It was one of his two individual event wins in the meet, as he also captured top billing in the 100 breaststroke by clocking in at 55.75. It is the third-fastest effort in the league so far this season.

Garberick, who earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors for the fifth time in his career, also swam the second legs for the first-place 200 medley relay (1:31.68) and the first-place 400 freestyle relay (3:05.87).

The Ball State men's swimming & diving program returns to action Saturday when it heads to Purdue for the Indiana Intercollegiates, which will also serve as the season opener for the women's program.
