T&F Wraps up Day One of Gladstein Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, IN – The Ball State track and field team finished up day one of the Gladstein Invitational taking home several heat wins and two event wins.

The Cardinals started the meet strong by picking up an early event win. Sophomore Carly Spletzer won the 3,000m and notched a personal best of 10:11.62. Sophomore Jenna Schifferer also recorded a collegiate personal best in the 3,000m (10:37.10).

Freshman Leila Williams-Molitor opened her collegiate 400m indoor debut at 59.99, which is her indoor career best and a few seconds shy of her outdoor best (59.73). Freshman Allison Valladay won heat of the 400m (58.80), running nearly two seconds faster than her time last week and pulling away a full second ahead of the next competitor.

In the 60m hurdles, junior Charity Griffith qualified for the finals with an 8.85, which was her season best time. Junior Jennah Rogers (9.00) and junior Jenelle Rogers (9.05) also qualified for the 60m hurdle finals out of 26 runners.

Sophomore Jenna Oriani placed first in the prelims of the 60m dash after winning her heat (7.54) and scoring a personal best. Freshman Alana Springer also picked up a heat win and placed second overall in the first round of the 60m with a 7.68.

Also in the 60m, freshman Lindley Steele placed fifth in the first round with a 7.81 and notched her personal best. Moriah Johnson wasn't far behind with a 7.88. With these times, all four student-athletes advanced to the 60m finals.

In the 400m fast section, Sophomore Emma Potter scored a 57.17, putting her in second. Making her indoor debut for the Cardinals was sophomore Ella Fullmer who competed in the mile (5:33.17).

Jenna Oriani picked up an event win in the 60m final with a 7.58. Jenelle Rogers tied her personal best with a 8.96. Charity Griffith notched a season best in the 60m hurdles (8.85).
