Pair of WVB Players Earn MAC Weekly Honors

CLEVELAND - - A pair of Ball State women's volleyball players earned Mid-American Conference weekly honors for their play at last weekend's LUV Invitational hosted by Lipscomb.
Junior middle Lauren Gilliland was named the MAC West Division Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while senior libero Maggie Huber was named the MAC West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Gilliland earned the honor for the first time in her career after leading the Ball State offense with 37 kills and a .440 (37-4-75) attack percentage on her way to earning LUV Invitational All-Tournament honors.
Gilliland started the tournament with a career-high 17 kills and a .533 (17-1-30) attack percentage in the four-set win over Oklahoma. She added a team-high 13 kills and a .393 (13-2-28) rate of success in the tournament finale versus Mississippi State, while also scoring seven kills in the sweep of Lipscomb. Gilliland also averaged 0.70 blocks per set during the tournament.
Huber earned defensive player of the week accolades for the third time in her career after leading all MAC players with a 5.50 digs-per-set average last week. She collected 55 total digs to help the Cardinals to a 2-1 record at the LUV Invitational.
Huber stared the week with 20 digs in BSU's four-set win over Oklahoma, added 16 in the sweep of Lipscomb, and 19 versus Mississippi State. She also served up a pair of aces and finished the weekend with a .944 reception percentage.
After spending the first two weekends of the season on the road, the Cardinals open the home portion of the 2022 season this weekend with the Ball State Tournament. BSU will play both Arkansas State (10 a.m.) and Alabama (7 p.m.) Friday, before hosting Green Bay (6 p.m.) Saturday.
