Quarterback put up career numbers at Georgia Southern for first league honor
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ball State quarterback John Paddock was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Paddock picked up recognition for the first time in his career and is the first Cardinal to garner the accolade this season.
Paddock had a career day under center with career highs of 338 passing yards and 33 completions in a shootout against Sun Belt contender Georgia Southern. He connected with seven different receivers en route to being the first player in four seasons to complete at least 30 passes in a game at Ball State (Drew Plitt at NC State, Sept. 21, 2019).
Paddock is one of just two MAC quarterbacks (Ohio's Kurtis Rourke) to have multiple 300-yard passing games this season. In fact, Paddock has produced 29 percent of all the MAC's 300-yard performances this season, while leading one of the conference's most outstanding offenses at 441 total offensive yards per game.
Through his first four games as the team's primary signal caller, Paddock is 111-of-175 through the air with 1,135 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Cardinals return home for the Battle for the Bronze Stalk Saturday afternoon at Scheumann Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET on ESPN+, the Ball State Gainbridge Radio Network and WLBC.
