July 01, 2022 | Women's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State women's volleyball head coach Kelli Miller Phillips has announced the team's 30-match fall schedule which is highlighted by 13 contests inside Worthen Arena.
The Cardinals were a perfect 13-0 at home last season, including winning the 2021 Mid-American Conference Tournament on the Worthen hardwood floor to secure a berth in the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship for the second time in the last three seasons.
Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a few weeks to catch Ball State at home as the program closes preseason with an Aug. 20 exhibition at Purdue Fort Wayne, before opening the regular season with road tournaments at USF (Aug. 26-27) and at Lipscomb (Sept. 2-3).
When the Cardinals do open the home portion of the season, however, fans will be in for a treat with four big matches in a span of five days. First up will be the Ball State Tournament (Sept. 9-10) which features Arkansas State, Alabama, and Green Bay.
Three days later, Ball State will welcome four-time defending Atlantic 10 Tournament champion Dayton (Sept. 13) to Worthen Arena in a battle of NCAA Championship second round participants.
Overall, the Cardinals will face four 2021 NCAA Championship participants during its preconference slate, starting with its season-opener versus South Alabama and a second weekend matchup versus Mississippi State.
Capping the list is the second match of the Stacey Clark Classic (Sept. 16-17), which will see Ball State battle in-state rival and NCAA Championship round of eight participant Purdue.
Following the contest versus the Boilermakers, the Cardinals open its 18-match MAC regular season slate on the road at Central Michigan (Sept. 23-24). In league play, Ball State hosts Eastern Michigan (Sept. 30 – Oct. 1), Akron (Oct. 7), Buffalo (Oct. 8), Western Michigan (Oct. 21-22), Kent State (Nov. 3-4), and Toledo (Nov. 16).
The Cardinals will also travel to NIU (Oct. 14-15), Toledo (Oct. 19), Bowling Green (Oct. 28), Miami (Oct. 29), and Ohio (Nov. 11-12).
The 2022 MAC Tournament will be held at the site of the regular season champion between Nov. 20 - Nov. 23. The league's top six teams will earn a spot into the event to determine who receives the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.
