Charity Griffith, Kayla Jones, Karlie Zumbro named to all-conference team
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Ball State track and field's Charity Griffith, Kayla Jones and Karlie Zumbro were named All-Mid-American Conference, the league office announced Wednesday. The trio earned first-team recognition following their performances at the annual outdoor championship meet.
Griffith won the high jump for her first outdoor championship at 1.76m. She also claimed the indoor title earlier this season after clearing a career-best height of 1.85m. The Arlington, Ind. native's outdoor mark of 1.81m - achieved at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational - is tied for the 14th-best among qualifiers in the NCAA East Prelims.
Jones captured her first MAC title in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.61, a day after qualifying for the finals with a run of 2:09.82. The Westerville, Ohio native also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay team that picked up points with a fifth-place finish in a time of 3:42.92.
Zumbro repeated as the heptathlon champion after setting a MAC Championship program record by scoring 5,403 points in the competition. Zumbro won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.20, the 200-meter dash in 25.32 and the long jump at 5.74m. The Zanesville, Ohio native placed second in the javelin throw (36.61m) and the 800-meter run (2:12.61) and took third in the shot put with a throw of 10.82m. The 800-meter mark was an all-time personal best.
Outside of the heptathlon, Zumbro placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.45.
