May 12, 2022 | Baseball
OLATHE, Kan. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its annual Academic All-District teams on Thursday. The Ball State baseball team was represented by Amir Wright.
Wright has reached base safely in 46 of the 47 games this season. He leads the team with 45 runs scored and leads the team with a .364 batting average. He is tied for second in the NCAA with six triples. He has 29 walks, 24 RBIs, nine stolen bases, nine doubles, and one home run. Wright is currently 12th in the nation as the toughest to strikeout and leads the MAC with a strikeout average of 14.7. He has struck out just 12 times in 176 at bats. This is the first time he has received a CoSIDA Academic All-District accolade.
The Academic All-District Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. The cumulative grade-point average may NOT be rounded up to 3.30. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable).
Graduate students who are competing at a different institution than the one from which they earned their undergraduate degree are eligible even if they are in their first semester at the graduate institution. Graduate transfers are only eligible for nomination at their current institution, unless they transferred and chose not to compete in intercollegiate athletics at their graduate transfer institution. Nominees in graduate school must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or above both as an undergrad and in grad school.
The Cardinals return to action on Friday, May 13, for their final home series of the season. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
