April 05, 2022 | Softball
CLEVELAND, Ohio - - For their play in last weekend's series sweep of Kent State, Ball State softball senior left fielder Faith Hensley and freshman pitcher Angelina Russo were honored by the Mid-American Conference with the league's weekly awards.
Â
Hensley earns MAC Player of the Week honors for the first time this season and second time in her career after leading the Cardinals in batting average (.667), runs scored (7), hits (6) RBI (5) and home runs (2) last week versus KSU.
Â
She registered at least two hits in each of the three games versus the Golden Flashes, while scoring at least twice in each contest. With her seven runs scored and five RBI, Hensley accounted for 10 of BSU's 23 runs in the series.
Â
In Friday's opener, she drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with her RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the fourth. In Saturday's series finale, her second home run of the game was a two-run, walk-off blast in the fifth inning, sealing the 11-3 (5) victory.
Â
Russo earns MAC Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time in her career for her brilliant performance in last Friday's 4-1 win over Kent State. In picking up her team-leading fifth win of the season, Russo held the Golden Flashes to just one hit.
Â
Over her 7.0 innings of work, Russo limited KSU to a .048 batting average and did not surrender an earned run. She also struck out four batters, registered five assists on grounders back to the circle, and forcing a pair of double plays.
Â
Hensley shares player of the week honors with Ohio's Annalia Paoli, while Russo shares pitcher of the week honors with Bowling Green's Payton Gottshall.
