Pfister and Ruthberg Shine at No. 20 Utah State
February 05, 2022 | Gymnastics
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Sophomore sensation Suki Pfister landed her third vault score of 9.900-or-higher this season to lead a strong Ball State gymnastics effort against a pair of top 25 teams at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah.
Â
Unfortunately, the Cardinals (4-7-1) could not build on last week's tri-meet sweep, suffering losses to No. 20 Utah State (196.425) and No. 24 Southern Utah (195.550).
Â
Sophomore Hannah Ruthberg also had a solid meet, placing second in the all-around with her second-best score of the season, a 39.175. She counted a season-high 9.825 on floor, 9.800s on vault and beam, and a 9.750 on bars.
Ball State was in second after the first two rotations, opening with its second-best floor score of the season at 48.875 and following with a strong vault mark of 48.975.
Â
However, a rough round on bars set the Cardinals back. BSU would close strong on beam, however, closing with a 48.625.
Â
Pfister's score of 9.900 was good enough to take home the event title on vault, giving her the event win in five straight meets.
 Â

All-Around:
Sophomore Hannah Ruthberg turned in another solid effort in the all-around, tallying her second-best score of the season at 39.175. She counted a season-high 9.825 on floor, 9.800s on vault and beam, and a 9.750 on bars.
Â
Head Coach Joanna Saleem:
"While the overall outcome did not go our way, there were some shining moments tonight despite all the adversity we faced. We were thrown quite a few challenges over the course of the week, but all of those experiences will continue to make us stronger as a team."Â
Â
"I'm super proud of Suki, coming out and just being consistent on vault. That was a nice, solid meet for Hannah. I am glad to see her back and battling for the top spot in the all-around. Marissa had a great bars routine. She started off strong and put together the best routine she has all year."
Â
"We were excited to make it out here, because there were a lot of meets this weekend that were canceled. We'll take every opportunity we can to get out, compete, and gain more experience working together as a team."
Â
"The team came over to the last event and ended strong on beam. To be able to do that after not having the type of performances they wanted on bars says a lot about the strength and maturity of our women. They are getting stronger and proving they can leave bad performances behind them and do their job on the next event. That's something we can build on going through the rest of the season."
