Cardinals Voted to Finish Second in MAC
February 15, 2022 | Baseball
CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its annual Preseason Coaches' Poll on Tuesday. The Ball State baseball team was voted to finish second by the MAC coaches with one first-place vote.
Despite losing three of its top-three pitchers from a season ago, Ball State was voted to finish second by the MAC coaches. Along with one first-place vote, the Cardinals collected two votes to win the MAC Tournament.
The Cardinals will have a new look in the starting rotation as Trennor O'Donnell and Ty Johnson combined for 11 starts a season ago are projected to be in the starting rotation. Ball State returns three of its four top hitters from a season ago. Nick Powell, Adam Tellier, and Trenton Quartermaine, who all hit above .300, will be back in the Cardinal lineup.
The Cardinals open the 2022 campaign against Bucknell on Friday, Feb. 18. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. in the first game of the Swig & Swine from The Shipyard Park in Charleston, S.C.
From the Coach – Head Coach Rich Maloney
"It is always good to be recognized by your peers as a team to contend with. However, preseason accolades don't mean a whole lot other than the coaches recognize you return some talented players with successful experience."
