CLEVELAND, Ohio - - For their part in helping guide the Ball State women's volleyball team to a fifth Mid-American Conference West Division Championship in the past six seasons last week, senior libero Maggie Huber and sophomore setter Megan Wielonski earned MAC weekly awards.
Huber was named the MAC West Division Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, while Wielonski claimed her fourth MAC West Division Setter of the Week honor in 2022.
Huber, now a five-time career honoree, led the Ball State defense with a 6.67 digs-per-set average in a pair of home sweeps of Kent State. She opened the week with 24 digs in Thursday's sweep, which were the most digs in a three-set match for the Cardinals this season.
She followed with 16 digs on her senior night Friday, helping Ball State earn its fourth consecutive sweep of the season. Both dig totals were match-highs. In addition, Huber dished out nine assists and was perfect in serve receive over the two matches, successfully passing all 13 serves she faced.
Wielonski claims the honor for the eighth time in her career after leading the Ball State offense to a league-best .342 attack percentage last week. In guiding BSU to a pair of sweeps over the Golden Flashes, she dished out 67 total assists over the six sets for an 11.17 assists-per-set average. She also averaged 2.67 digs, 0.83 aces and 0.83 kills-per-set.
In Thursday's sweep, she dished out 35 assists and 10 digs for her 16th double-double of the season. In Friday's sweep, she registered 32 assists, while tying her season-high with four service aces.
Huber, Wielonski, and the rest of the Ball State women's volleyball team return to action Friday, with the first of two weekend matches at Ohio.
The Cardinals enter the last three matches of the regular season with a one-and-a-half match lead over Bowling Green for the MAC Regular Season title and hosting rights for the 2022 MAC Women's Volleyball Championship.
