Let The Countdown Begin: Field Hockey Releases 2021 Schedule
July 29, 2021 | Field Hockey
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State head field hockey coach Stephanie Bernthal, who enters her fourth season at the helm of the Cardinals, has announced the team's 2021 schedule.Â
"If we've learned anything in the last year, it's how special being able to compete is," Bernthal said. "We are so excited for this fall's matchups and the opportunity to see our growth as a program. The team has a strong veteran presence after being full of youth for the past few years. We look forward to getting back to work together on Aug. 11."Â
The Cardinals have a lot to look forward to this upcoming season. Ball State continued to improve under Bernthal's guidance last year, driving toward the goal of returning the historic program to prominence. The Cardinals ended the season with six victories, including wins over fellow Mid-American Conference schools Appalachian State, Ohio, Longwood, Bellarmine and Central Michigan. The team also limited opponents to 1.81 goals per game for its best showing on defense since allowing a 1.78 average in 2002.Â
Ball State will face multiple teams from the Big Ten this season — Ohio State (Aug. 27), Michigan (Sept. 10), Michigan State (Sept. 12), Indiana (Sept. 26) and Northwestern (Oct. 10).Â
The Cardinals will host eight home contests at Briner Sports Complex plus one scrimmage against Indiana on Aug. 20 at 1 p.m. BSU's home opener will come against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Aug. 27 at 1 p.m.Â
Ball State will welcome four MAC opponents to campus - Central Michigan (Sept. 17), Appalachian State (Oct. 8), Bellarmine (Oct. 15) and Kent State (Oct. 30) in the regular season finale. All four league contests will be played at 1 p.m. The game against Bellarmine will serve as Senior Day.Â
The MAC Tournament is slated for Nov. 4-6 at Miami in Oxford, Ohio.Â
The Ball State field hockey team officially reports to campus for its fall camp Wednesday, August 11.Â
