Baker Caps Career With Pair Of Honors

In his last day pitching for Ball State, John Baker put the exclamation point on an excellent college career. Baker struck out 17 and earned two wins last Saturday to lead BSU to a sweep over Miami. His efforts earned him MAC Pitcher of the Week and a listing among the national players of the week by Collegiate Baseball News.Â
Baker entered the first game of the series in the top of the 7th inning. It was scoreless and there was a 3-1 count on the batter from Miami. Baker threw 10 pitches to strike out three batters, and Ball State went on to walk off against elite pitching prospect Sam Bachman 1-0. Baker then started the next game, a 12-2 Ball State win and complete game with 14 strikeouts. For the day, he struck out 17 and allowed two runs over 9.0 innings and was the winning pitcher in each game.Â
In his career, Baker finishes as a three-time All-MAC pitcher and a 9-time MAC Pitcher of the Week. He was the active Division I career strikeouts leader with 404 and fashioned a 27-14 record and 3.00 ERA over 55 starts and 351.1 innings. He finished is final season with a 9-3 record and a 2.41 ERA and 107 strikeouts.Â
