MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State women's basketball is excited to welcome graduate transfer Chyna Latimer to the program according to head coach Brady Sallee.
Latimer joins the Cardinals after spending the 2020-21 season at the University of Delaware, where she helped guide the Blue Hens to the quarterfinal round of the WNIT and a 24-5 overall record. The 2020-21 Colonial Athletics Association regular season champions, Delaware also advanced to the CAA Tournament championship game. Latimer will have two seasons of eligibility remaining when she arrives on the Ball State campus this fall.
"What a way to top off our recruiting efforts this year," Sallee exclaimed. "To bring in a proven winner like Chyna is exactly what we wanted with this addition! Her athleticism and competitiveness are off the charts, but her maturity and character are what sealed the deal for me. She will impact our program with her versatility and abilities to play multiple positions. She is an aggressive scorer and a long, tough defender. To say we are excited to add Chyna to the family would be an understatement! I can't wait for next season to get here!"
Latimer started all 29 games for the Blue Hens this past season, averaging 6.1 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. She scored a career-high 16 points in the 74-55 win at Elon (Jan. 30), including 10 second-quarter points to help her squad rally from down 22-20 to take a 34-28 advantage at the half.
Overall, Latimer reached double figures in four games in her lone playing season at Delaware, while also recording 22 steals and eight blocked shots. Prior to her time with the Blue Hens, Latimer spent two seasons at George Washington where she saw action in 52 games and earned four starts. She averaged 3.2 points and 2.0 rebounds per game for the Colonials, while collecting 14 career blocks and 17 career steals.
As a sophomore in 2018-19, Latimer played in 25 games with three starts. She averaged 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest, while logging a season-high 12 points versus Dayton (Jan. 12, 2019). As a freshman in 2017-18, she averaged 2.9 points and 1.8 rebounds per game, while registering a GW career-high 14 points at Fordham (Dec. 31, 2017).
Prior to college, Latimer lead Patterson Mill High School to an 84-16 (.840) record and three MPSSAA Class 2A State Championships titles over her four-year career. One of 10 finalists for the Baltimore Sun Female Athlete of the Year award as a senior, she scored 1,494 career points for the Huskies. She was also a two-time team captain and a two-time Maryland 2A/1A First Team selection.
Latimer will graduate from Delaware later this spring with a 3.785 grade point average as a double major in criminal justice and political science. She will pursue her master's in public administration with a concentration in criminal justice at Ball State.
