Gym Cards Represent On National Stage
April 02, 2021 | Gymnastics
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - The list of accomplishment keeps growing for Ball State gymnastics. The highest team ranking in 20 years. Outscoring every MAC team during the season. Four gymnasts in the regional. As the 2021 season ended Friday night, four great performances on a national stage presented a chance to reflect on the accomplishments of the programs during a year unlike any other.Â
"We showed so much grit and made all the sacrifices to just make it this far. And that's a big deal," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "We stuck together and I can't say enough about how proud I am of the commitment of our team."
Victoria Henry landed a 9.850 score to tie for 7th and was competitive, but fell just shy of advancing to the next round. Both bars competitors - Grace Evans and Megan Teter - represented Ball State well and were really solid, according to Saleem. Evans scored a 9.850 and Teter a 9.800. On floor, Claudia Goyco scored 9.750. Watch all four routines in the video below:
The Cardinals in the meet rotated with Missouri, which advanced to Saturday's next round. The Cards and Tigers grew a mutual respect and cheered for each other, in one of the better parts of the competition. Saleem was grateful of the friendship with Missouri, saying they were "all class."Â
"We were really grateful of Missouri welcoming us and cheering for us and it was great rotating with them," Saleem said. "A lot of times, teams can get in the zone and there's pressure and it's awkward. But we enjoyed cheering for them and them cheering for us."Â

After one of the most successful seasons in BSU gymnastics history, what's next? The four Cards who made it to Alabama will take some time off and the other Cardinals will begin offseason workouts soon.Â
Gymnastics season is only nine months away.
