MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State soccer team swept the season's final MAC West Division Player of the Week honors with Jenna Dombrowski winning the offensive award and Shelby Kean the defensive award.
Dombrowski, who owns a 3.84 GPA as a journalism major, was also named the MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week among all sports currently competing.
The duo helped Ball State to a pair of victories in must-win games last week to lift the Cardinals to the MAC West Division championship and into this week's MAC Championship game at Bowling Green.
Dombrowski, a junior from Bartlett, Illinois, scored both goals in Sunday's 2-1, division-clinching victory over Eastern Michigan. The junior put the Cardinals on the board in the 19th minute when she hammered home a deflected cross to open the scoring. She then gave BSU a 2-0 lead in the 50th minute when she converted on the end of a corner kick with a well-placed shot past the keeper and several defenders.
Kean, a senior from Weston, Florida, never left the field last week. She played a key role for a back line that allowed just one goal over the two games, and she also assisted on the game-winning goal against Eastern Michigan. Kean's defensive effort that day helped keep the Eagles off the scoreboard until the 82nd minute. That performance came on the heels of a shut out at Northern Illinois just three days earlier when she and her back line mates limited the Huskies to three shots.
Saturday's MAC Championship game is a rematch of the 2018 title game which saw Bowling Green move on in penalty kicks. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium, as the Cardinals aim for their first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
