Ball State assistant men's basketball coach Matt Crenshaw is going home. The IUPUI alum who coached on James Whitford's BSU staff for three seasons was named head coach at IUPUI on Tuesday.
"I want to congratulate Matt on getting the head coaching job at IUPUI," head coach James Whitford said. "Matt is a great basketball coach and an even better leader of young men. His natural leadership ability and his passion for IUPUI will help guide them to new heights in the years to come."

During Crenshaw's time at BSU, the team won 44 games and earned the No. 3 seed in the 2020 MAC Men's Basketball Tournament while earning a division title. He mentored All-MAC guards Tayler Persons, Ishmael El-Amin and K.J. Walton as well as the 2020 MAC Freshman of the Year in point guard Jarron Coleman while serving as Ball State's co-defensive coordinator, scouting upcoming opponent offenses.
Crenshaw, who spent 12 seasons at IUPUI as an assistant coach, is one of the program's all-time great players. He recorded a school-record 510 assists at IUPUI and he was the Mid-Continent Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2003. Prior to his college playing career, the 2004 IUPUI graduate spent six years in the Navy and played on various military all-star teams around the globe.
