Women's Volleyball Welcomes Transfer Emily Hollowell
April 13, 2021 | Women's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State women's volleyball is excited to welcome graduate transfer Emily Hollowell to the program according to head coach Kelli Miller Phillips.
Hollowell joins the Cardinals after spending the last four years at the University of Illinois. After seeing match action in three of those seasons, including 29 sets played during the COVID-19 shortened 2021 spring campaign, Hollowell will have two seasons of eligibility at Ball State.
"Emily is a huge addition to our program," Phillips said. "She can play at either pin and is working hard to become a complete six rotation player. She puts up a physical block and can hit a variety of shots at the pin. She has played against some of the best players in the country, and I know she will use that experience to help our team compete for MAC Championships. I can't wait to have her on campus this fall!"
This spring, Hollowell averaged 1.34 kills-per-set for the Fighting Illini, including a career-high seven kills versus No. 4 Nebraska on March 6. She also registered seven kills in her next two outings, back-to-back wins over Maryland (March 19-20). Hollowell finished the season with 39 kills, 10 total blocks and six digs in Big Ten action.
Hollowell did not see action as a freshman in 2017, while playing in one match during both the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
A native of Little Elm, Texas, Hollowell played for the Texas Advantage Volleyball club team as a junior, helping her squad win the 2016 USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championship in the 17s Open Division.
She helped her Dallas Skyline club team win a national championship in the 14s Open Division in 2013, while her LoneStar Volleyball club team took 13th at the 2015 nationals. A Texas qualifier in sand volleyball doubles, she was a member of the Little Elm High School team as a freshman and sophomore, and played for the Dallas Arsenal Volleyball Club as a senior.
Hollowell will graduate from Illinois this spring with a degree in kinesiology and is pursuing her masters in executive development at Ball State staring in the fall.
