CLEVELAND, Ohio - - For her part in helping guide the Ball State women's volleyball team to a 2-1 mark last week, sophomore middle Marie Plitt has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
It was a solid all-around week for Plitt, who averaged 2.08 blocks, 1.33 digs and 2.33 kills per set while hitting .368.
Â
In fact, in Saturday's contest versus Central Michigan, Plitt recorded the largest individual blocking total in the MAC so far this season, registering 11 total blocks. It was also the most blocks in a match for a Ball State player since Sept. 8, 2017. Plitt also tallied nine kills and five digs in the contest.
Â
That was not her only strong defensive match, however. In Friday's five-set win over the Chippewas, Plitt registered seven total blocks and a career-high 10 digs. She also scored 11 kills for her first career kill/dig double-double.
Â
Plitt opened the week with seven more blocks in the sweep of Miami, while adding eight kills and hitting .571 (8-0-14).
Â
Overall, Plitt's performance at the net helped the Cardinals climb back atop the MAC team blocking rankings at 2.46 blocks per set.
Â
Plitt is the second Ball State player to earn the MAC's weekly defensive award this season, joining sophomore libero/defensive specialist Maggie Huber who claimed the award after the third week of play.
Â
Plitt and the Ball State women's volleyball team close the 2020-21 regular season this week with three matches. The first, a 7 p.m. first serve Tuesday at Toledo.
