February 12, 2021 | Gymnastics
ST. CHARLES, Missouri - Through three rotations Friday night at the GymQuarters Invitational, things for Ball State were just going OK. The highlights were Claudia Goyco winning floor and Megan Teter tying for first on bars. Overall, the team was doing...fine.
But at the end of the night, when their best was needed, the Cardinals landed it on vault. Victoria Henry and Stefanie Schweikert went 1-2 and the Cardinals scored 49.000 on vault. In the end, BSU posted a 194.275 on the night, placing first in the 6-team event in Missouri.
"It took all of us until the very last routine," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "We hung in there and kept together through each rotation."
Henry posted a 9.850 on vault, followed by Schweikert's season-best 9.825. Bri Slonim, Arden Hudson and Suki Pfister were each 9.750 or better as the Cards were at their best when their best was needed. All night at the top of the standings with Eastern Michigan, EMU had three deductions on floor and the Cards edged to the top of the standings.
Goyco's winning floor score was 9.85 and Teter's bars mark was 9.875. Taylor Waldo was the top Card on beam with a 9.850.
Ball State has a quick turnaround this weekend. The Cards welcome Northern Illinois to Muncie Sunday at 3 p.m. Fans can WATCH HERE and FOLLOW HERE.
