
Volleyball Sweeps MAC West Division Weekly Awards

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - The Ball State women's volleyball team was heavily rewarded for clinching the Mid-American Conference West Division Championship last week, earning a sweep of the division's weekly awards Monday (Nov. 8).

For the fourth consecutive week, Cardinals setter Megan Wielonski was named the MAC West Division Setter of the Week. In addition, libero Maggie Huber claimed defensive player of the week honors, while outside hitter Jaclyn Bulmahn earned offensive player of the week.

In BSU's two-match sweep of Central Michigan last week, Wielonski averaged 13.13 assists per set and guided the Ball State offense to a .289 attack percentage. In Thursday's series opener, she led the offense to a .281 hitting mark by handing out 49 assists over the four-set win. She also collected 14 digs, for her 15th assist/dig double-double of season, while adding four kills, two aces and a block assist. In Friday's win, she led the offense to a .296 hitting mark, handing out 56 assists over the four sets. She also tallied seven digs, two total blocks, one more ace, and one more kill.

In earning her second career defensive player of the week honor, Huber averaged 6.00 digs per set and earned a 1.000 reception percentage In Thursday's series opener, she led all players with 26 digs and earned a perfect reception percentage on 13 attempts. She also handed out a pair of assists. In Friday's matchup, she once again paced all players in digs, this time collecting 22 to go along with another perfect reception percentage on 15 attempts. She also added two more assists and a service ace.

Bulmahn averaged 3.88 kills per set and produced a .347 (31-6-72) attack percentage last week to earn her first career MAC weekly honor. In Thursday's series opener, Bulmahn smashed a match-high 15 kills and hit .400 (15-3-30) to help the Cardinals pick up the four-set victory. She also tallied a block assist in the win. In Friday's senior night matchup, Bulmahn once again led all players in kills, this time putting up 16 to go along with a .310 (16-3-42) hitting mark. She also collected three block assists.

The Ball State women's volleyball team returns to action Friday, when it opens a two-match swing at Eastern Michigan with a 2 p.m. first serve at EMU's Convocation Center. The Cardinals enter the weekend series ranked 35th in the latest NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball RPI and are tied for the national lead with 24 wins on the season.
