Fifth-year receiver selected as one of five up for the annual award
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Ball State wide receiver Justin Hall was chosen as a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award, the Louisville Sports Commission announced Wednesday. He is one of five players from around the country in contention for the annual award.
Hall, who has earned recognition on the Hornung Award Honor Roll four times this season, is one of seven players in the country to score a touchdown via rush, reception and kickoff return this season.
The dynamic playmaker is responsible for 72 points this season through 12 touchdowns, which is tied for the most by a wide receiver in the country. He has scored six touchdowns on the ground, five through reception and one by way of a kickoff return.
Hall is first among active players in career receiving yards (3,378) and has recorded at least one reception in 53 straight games – every game of his career – and is one off of tying the NCAA record set by Central Michigan's Bryan Anderson (2006-09) for the most consecutive games catching a pass with 54.
The Douglasville, Ga. native is second among active players in career all-purpose yards (5,352) and is 15th in the country overall averaging 136.1 all-purpose yards per game this season.
Hall's kickoff return average of 34.5 currently stands as the third-highest mark in the country.
Joining Hall as finalists for the award are Blake Corum (Michigan), Marcus Jones (Houston), Jayden Reed (Michigan State) and Kyren Williams (Notre Dame).
The Louisville Sports Commission successfully launched the Paul Hornung Award in 2010 to honor its namesake and native son, and to promote outstanding performances by versatile college football players who often go unnoticed. The 17-person Paul Hornung Award National Selection Committee chose the 2021 finalists, with fans generating the 18th vote online.
The 12th annual Paul Hornung Award winner will be selected from among the finalists and announced on Dec. 8, 2021. Fan voting for the winner, powered by Texas Roadhouse, opens today and continues through Dec. 6 at www.paulhornungaward.com and will again count as the 18th vote. Fans can vote once every 24 hours for their favorite from among the five finalists.
