Women’s Tennis Takes Down Valparaiso Sunday, 6-1

MUNCIE, Ind. - After opening the 2021 spring season on the road against two very competitive teams in Louisville and Notre Dame, the Cardinals returned home Sunday for a match-up against the Valparaiso Crusaders.
The Cardinals (1-2) earned an impressive 6-1 win over Valparaiso (0-1) in their home opener at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
BSU took all three doubles matches from Valparaiso starting with the No. 2 doubles tandem of Jessica Braun and Amy Kaplan. The twosome did not give up a point to Amanda Tabanera and her partner Mia Bertino, winning the match 6-0.
On the top court, Emma Peeler alongside teammate Mariya Polishchuk secured the early 1-0 advantage for the Cardinals after their 6-1 defeat over Claire Czerwonka and Olivia Czerwonka.
Rebecca Herrington and Livia Lukacs also won their doubles competition at position three by a score of 6-1.
The Cardinals took five of the six singles courts from the Crusaders. Braun and Herrington finished their respective opponents off quickly at positions two and five, 6-0, 6-1.
After that, BSU had a 3-0 edge over Valparaiso and needed just one more point to claim the win. Peeler who's been competing extremely well at the top spot for the Cardinals earned match point for BSU with her 6-2, 6-2 take down over Claire Czerwonka.
Polishchuk and Lukacs also were winners today in singles action earning straight set victories on courts two and six, respectfully.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues non-conference action at home on Feb. 13 against Middle Tennessee with first serve scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
