Cardinals to play 10-game MAC slate in March and April
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State's soccer schedule is now in place for the spring in a season delayed by COVID-19. The Mid-American Conference will play a 10-game, league-only schedule.
Â
Each MAC team will face its five division opponents twice. For Ball State, that means home-and-home matchups with Toledo, Northern Illinois, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan from the West Division.
Â
The Cardinals will open the regular season Thursday, March 4 at home against Toledo and play four of their first six games at the Briner Sports Complex. BSU will then play three straight on the road before closing the regular season April 11 back in Muncie against Eastern Michigan.
Â
The winners of each division will meet for a MAC Championship game Saturday, April 17 to determine the league's automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament.Â
Â
Ball State will also play two preseason exhibition games, facing Butler at Grand Park in Westfield and hosting Miami (Ohio).
Â
The MAC Council of Presidents voted in August to postpone the season because of concerns related to the COVID-19 global pandemic. The NCAA's Division I Council also voted in August to move its fall championships in the spring.
Â
Ball State tied the school record for wins last season, its first under head coach Josh Rife, in the fall of 2019. The Cardinals went 15-5 overall and finished second in the MAC at 9-2 in league play. BSU returns 18 letterwinners, including previous all-conference performers Nicky Potts, Emily Simmons and Tatiana Mason.
