Ball State Gymnastics Adds Cai Afalla
January 26, 2021 | Gymnastics
"We are so excited to have Cai join our team in the fall. She is such a fun energetic individual," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "She can't contain her enthusiasm at becoming a Cardinal. I love seeing the passion this young lady has for Ball State and our program. Her clean, dynamic gymnastics will be a wonderful addition to our lineups."
Afalla, from Kennesaw, Georgia, competes for the Atlanta North Stars club and has been a Level 10 gymnast for four years. She placed third at the Region 8 Eastern Championships. An honor roll student at North Cobb High School, she's interested in pursuing physical therapy courses at Ball State.
I chose Ball State University because of its great atmosphere," Afalla said. "I have gotten to know the coaches of the gymnastics team, the gymnast on the team, and have learned all about BSU's beautiful campus. I believe Ball State University is the perfect place for me to grow not only in gymnastics but also in my academics. I strive to be the best student-athlete I can be and I know I can achieve my goals at BSU."
Afalla will join a recruiting class at Ball State that already includes Indiana natives Grace Sumner and Adriana Gilley. They will compete for BSU beginning next season.Â
Ball State began its 2021 competition schedule last week at home against Central Michigan, outscoring the conference favorite. The Cardinals set numerous school records for meet scoring last season and finished second in the Mid-American Conference.
