Three Members of Swimming & Diving Program Earn MAC Weekly Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - The Ball State swimming & diving program was heavily rewarded for its success last weekend, with three Cardinals earning Mid-American Conference weekly honors.

On the women's side, senior Caitlin Locante was named the MAC Diver of the Week after setting the program record on the 3m board. In addition, freshman Marcella Ribeiro's two wins in her Ball State debut earned her MAC Swimmer of the Week honors.

On the men's side, sophomore Owen Chaye captured MAC Swimmer of the Week accolades after sweeping the freestyle sprints Saturday.

MAC Women's Diver of the WeekÂ
Caitlin Locante, Ball State
Senior, Brookfield, Wis. (Brookfield Central)
Ball State senior diver Caitlin Locante made the most of her senior day, winning the 3m diving competition with a program record and NCAA Zone Diving qualifying score of 323.625 at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.  Locante would make it a clean sweep, also picking up the 1m victory with a score of 253.425, to help the women's squad top UIndy by a score of 24-13.

Freshman, Uberlãndia, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Freshman swimmer Marcella Ribeiro picked up a pair of individual wins in her Ball State debut last Saturday in a win over Bellarmine. The Uberlãndia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, native was unable to join the team until late December due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, but made her presence felt in her first collegiate meet by winning both the 200 (1:53.56) and 500 (5:04.49) freestyle events.

Sophomore, Medina, Ohio (Medina)
Sophomore Owen Chaye turned in a pair of impressive swims in last Saturday's victory over Bellarmine, sweeping the freestyle sprints. After starting the day by anchoring for the first-place 200 medley relay, Chaye turned in season-fast times of 21.54 in the 50 free and 46.85 in the 100 free to win both events. Both times are also the fastest for a Ball State swimmer so far this season.
