Fort Wayne TinCaps Broadcaster will announce BSU Women's Hoops
MUNCIE, Ind. – A new voice on the Indiana sports scene, Jack McMullen is joining the Ball State Athletics radio team and Ball State Sports Properties this fall. A current member of the Fort Wayne TinCaps broadcast crew, McMullen will serve primarily as the voice of Ball State women's basketball.
A Chicago native, McMullen replaces Mick Tidrow behind the microphone. Tidrow, who completed his master's degree at Ball State in the spring, now serves full-time as a broadcaster for BEK Sports in North Dakota.
McMullen's role with the Cardinals includes play-by-play for Ball State women's basketball on WXFN, Muncie's Sports Station, in addition to being the third person on the call for Ball State football with Joel Godett and Rich Spisak on WLBC this fall. McMullen will handle hosting duties for a select number of Monday Night with the Red & White shows at McAlister's Deli during basketball season.
"Jack was one of more than 140 applicants for this position and distinguished himself with the maturity of his call well beyond his years," said Ball State Director of Broadcasting Joel Godett. "Jack's fundamentals are so solid. His call is clean and his personality comes through in his work. Cardinals fans will appreciate Jack's work and the professionalism and quality he'll bring to the air."
Without minor league baseball this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, McMullen worked on video game broadcasts via the TinCaps' Facebook Live page. He came to Fort Wayne after graduating from Syracuse University in the spring. While a student, McMullen broadcast for legendary WAER, the radio station famous for producing the likes of Bob Costas, Ian Eagle and more recently Chicago White Sox announcer Jason Benetti. He also was on the call for a variety of sports on ACC Network Extra through the school's partnership with the ACC Network and ESPN. McMullen spent the 2019 season as the voice of the Auburn Doubledays, an affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
Ball State football, it was announced Friday, will begin its six-game 2020 season Nov. 4. For continuing coverage of the Cardinals, make sure to follow the team on social media @BallStateSports, @BallStateFB and @BSUCoachNeu.
