Women's Volleyball Wins MAC Tournament
Â
Entering a pivotal Halloween night showdown with Mid-American Conference West Division rival Toledo, the Ball State women's volleyball program was battling to stay alive in the race to qualify for the 2019 MAC Tournament.
Â
The Cardinals had lost three straight matches, to fall to 5-5 in league play, and were just one setback away from dropping out of the top eight in the MAC standings. Only the top eight teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the tournament.
Â
However, that "Spooktacular" night in Muncie saw one of the most nail-biting, yet exhilarating wins in program history. With the contest tied at two sets apiece, the Cardinals were able to survive six Toledo match points to eek out the fifth set, by a score of 23-21, to earn the victory.

It was a win that changed the trajectory of the season for the young Ball State squad, which saw eight freshman contribute on the year, and sparked one of the most impressive winning streaks in program history.
Â
The Cardinals went on to claim victory in the next five matches to finish the regular season as MAC West Division Co-Champions with an 11-5 league record. The six-match winning streak to close conference play also helped Ball State earn the fourth seed in the tournament and secure a first-round bye in the event.
Â
… but Ball State's run would not stop there…
Â
The Cardinals opened the 2019 MAC Tournament with a 3-1 win over perennial league powerhouse Ohio in quarterfinal action. Despite facing the league's top blocking team in the Bobcats for its tournament opener, the Ball State offense could not be stopped as it connected for a .344 (67-15-151) attack percentage in the victory … RECAP
