Men’s Tennis Closes Spring Trip Out West With A 6-1 Win Over UC San Diego

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Ball State men's tennis team closed its spring break out west in California after posting a 6-1 win over UC San Diego Sunday evening at the Northview Tennis Courts. With the win, the Cardinals will return home with an overall mark of 8-4 while the Triton's fall to 9-3 on the year.
The Cardinals continue to dominate this spring season in doubles play and tonight's match was no different, as Ball State jumped to an early 1-0 lead over the Triton's after earning victories on courts three and two. Danilo Kovacevic has returned to the lineup and continues to get back into the groove of things as he paired up with Bryce Bonin at the No. 3 slot to take down UC San Diego's duo of William Lan and Dylan Taylor, 6-0. Thibault de Negri alongside Parrish Simmons clinched the doubles point with their 6-3 take down over Zach Ermert and Neil Tengbumroong at position two.
In singles action, Ball State took five of the six courts from UC San Diego. In order, Kovacevic, Vince Orlando and Simmons all earned straight set matches at the No. 3, 4, and 5 position to give Ball State the 4-0 edge over UC San Diego. Simmons dominated Marius Ruh at the No. 5 slot, 6-2, 6-2, to claim the winning point for the Cardinals. de Negri and Chris Adams also took home victories on their respective courts.
The Ball State men's tennis team will remain on the road next week when it plays at Chicago State and Northwestern on Saturday, March 14.
