Another SCHOOL RECORD SCORE!
March 01, 2020 | Gymnastics
DEKALB, Ill. - Just two weeks after setting a school record for team score, the Ball State gymnastics team went on the road and beat that mark. BSU's 195.800 team score Sunday at Northern Illinois set a new school record.
A much-improved effort on bars helped the Cardinals get the day started. The Cards totaled 48.925 on the event, a season high for the team. Arden Hudson and Grace Evans each charted 9.825 and then a 9.900 vault routine from Marissa Nychyk kept the Cardinals going.Â
"It's great to see us come together as a team and stay tough and have this success," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "We had a couple falls, but we stayed together and teammates picked each other up. It's nice to see this group be competitive and rise to challenges. It's been fun to watch."
On floor, Claudia Goyco registered a career-high 9.925 mark and three others were 9.800 or better. Finishing on beam, the Cardinals' five counting scores were all at least a 9.725. Hudson's routine was a team-best 9.825.
The previous mark was 195.750, set on Feb. 16 in Worthen Arena. The record score heading into this season was 195.650, which was set at the MAC Championships in 2016.
Ball State edged Northern Illinois in the head-to-head scoring 195.800 - 195.750.
"It was a really competitive meet and it was nice to beat a good Northern Illinois team in their gym," Saleem said.
Fans can catch the Cardinals at home one more time this season. The last home meet is next Sunday, March 8 with North Carolina also competing.Â
