Three Home Saturday Games in October Highlight Release of 2020 Football Schedule
February 26, 2020 | Football
MUNCIE, Ind. – The 2020 Ball State football schedule is officially set as the Mid-American Conference released its full league schedule Wednesday afternoon.
It will be a busy October at Scheumann Stadium as three conference opponents are slated to visit Muncie – Western Michigan (Oct. 3), Northern Illinois (Oct. 17) and Akron (Oct. 24). The last two games against WMU have been decided by a total of five points. Redshirt senior quarterback Drew Plitt led the Cards to a thrilling 42-41 overtime win over Western Michigan at the Scheu in 2018.
In one of the biggest wins from 2019, the Cardinals took down Northern Illinois on the road to regain the Bronze Stalk Trophy for the first time since 2008. Ball State's defense forced three second half turnovers and senior running back Caleb Huntley rumbled for 157 yards in last year's 27-20 victory.
Ball State's final home league game will be a midweek #MACtion game against Eastern Michigan on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The EMU contest will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2, ESPNU or CBS Sports Network.
Ball State's first MAC road test will take the Cardinals to Buffalo on Saturday, Oct. 10. This will only be Ball State's second visit to Buffalo since 2011. The Cardinals are 5-0 all-time at Buffalo, including a 31-21 win in their most recent trip in 2016.
Three of Ball State's final four conference games are on the road, highlighted by outings at the defending champions of the MAC East (Miami (Ohio)) and MAC West (Central Michigan) divisions. The Cardinals aim to keep hold of the Red Bird Rivalry Trophy against Miami on Saturday, Oct. 31. Ball State travels north to Central Michigan on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
The regular season winds down with a trek to Toledo right before Thanksgiving on Tuesday, Nov. 24. Ball State has not won in The Glass City since 2012. The MAC Championship date will be announced at a later time.
Ball State's non-conference schedule will certainly have the Cardinals battle tested for MAC competition. After Ball State kicks off the year with a Thursday night home game against Maine on Sept. 3, the Cardinals hit the road for back-to-back games at Michigan (Sept. 12) and Indiana (Sept. 19). This is the first time Ball State has squared off against a pair of Big Ten teams in the same season since 2010 (Purdue, Iowa).
Wyoming, out of the Mountain West Conference, and Ball State will line up on the gridiron for the first time ever at Scheumann Stadium on Sept. 26. The Cardinals will return the game to Wyoming in 2021. Wyoming is coming off an 8-5 campaign that concluded with a dominating 38-17 win over Georgia State in the 2019 Arizona Bowl.
Family Weekend will take place during the Wyoming game (Sept. 26), while Homecoming is slated for the Northern Illinois contest (Oct. 17).
Every Ball State football game can be heard on the radio locally on WLBC 104.1 FM.
Ball State returns to the football field for spring practice beginning Tuesday, March 17. The annual Spring Game is slated for Saturday, April 18.
