KALAMAZOO, Mich. - At the West Hills Athletic Club on the campus of Western Michigan, the Cardinals won their neutral site game Friday afternoon after registering a 6-1 victory over Northern Iowa.
The Cardinals took all three doubles courts from the Panthers, opening the match on a high note. First off the court was the No. 3 duo of Jessica Braun and Rebecca Herrington, the twosome did not give up a game in their 6-0 defeat over Northern Iowa's Olivia Fain and Thaissa Moreira. It didn't take long for Amy Kaplan and Victoria Sec to claim the doubles point after beating Harrimans Proudfoot and Valentina Caro, 6-3, at the No. 2 position. Livia Lukacs and Emma Peeler rounded out the doubles play after grabbing a 6-4 victory on the top court.
Kaplan moved the Cardinals lead to 2-0 after cruising past Madeline Doherty at match four, 6-0, 6-1. Peeler followed suit capturing a 6-0, 6-0, straight set take down against Emma Carr on court two. Herrington's 6-0, 6-1 victory over Kim Zizek at match three would wrap up the fourth point and give Ball State the win over Northern Iowa. Newcomer Emily Desai would also beat Caro at the No. 6 spot taking both frames, 6-3, 6-1, to make the final score 6-1.
The Ball State women's tennis team returns home Saturday against the University of Findlay. The match will begin at 1 p.m. in the Muncie Northwest YMCA Tennis Center.
