Reder guided her high school alma mater to the Ohio state championship in 2019
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Former Ball State soccer standout and reigning Ohio state champion high school coach Brigit Reder was named to the United Soccer Coaches' distinguished 30 Under 30 list for 2020-21.
Â
Reder is now in her fifth season as the girls' varsity soccer head coach at Lakota West, her high school alma mater outside Cincinnati. She led her team to an unbeaten record of 22-0-2 in 2019 and a state title in Ohio's largest division.
Â
Reder built the Lakota West program from a five-win season her first year to a national ranking of No. 2 in the USA Today Super 25 just three years later. Her team set school records for longest winning streak (15 games) and unbeaten streak (29 games) spanning the 2019 and 2020 seasons. The Firebirds are in the midst of another impressive year at 8-3 entering the final stretch of the regular season.
Â
Reder was a two-time all-conference performer as a player at Lakota West before continuing her career collegiately at Ball State from 2009-12. She was an All-MAC and CoSIDA Academic All-District selection for the Cardinals, anchoring strong defensive teams on the back line while finishing her career first in school history in minutes played (6,725) and seventh in goals scored (11).
Â
A special education major, Reder graduated from Ball State with academic honors. She then continued her playing career professionally, including stints with the Seattle Sounders FC, Western New York Flash and Ostersund DFF in Sweden.
Â
This year's 30 Under 30 award recipients included 15 men and 15 women across college, high school and youth coaching. The group was selected from a pool of more than 550 applicants, the most in the history of the program.
