
Cardinals Finish Third at Butler Invitational

FISHERS, Ind. – The Ball State University men's swimming and diving team faced some of the toughest competition in the region Sunday at the Butler Invitational and managed to finish third overall in the team standings.
Overall, the Cardinals scored 516.50 team points. Xavier University won the invitational with 745 points.
The Cardinals started the day by placing third in the 200 Medley Relay (1:34.99) with a team of Jared Holder, Jacob Powell, Bryce Handshoe and Ben Andrew. Andrew also snagged BSU's next top-three finish with a third-place result in the 100 Breast (58.70).
Handshoe had a strong showing in the 200 Fly (1:55.96) which placed him in fourth, and Owen Chaye (21.27), Jack Wolfred (21.53) and Duncan McLarty (21.60) went two-three-four in the 50 Free. McLarty also finished third in the 100 Free (46.88).
In the 500 Free, Ryan Short performed well for the Cardinals by claiming third (4:51.68) and Ben Andrew followed with a fourth-place result in the 100 Fly (51.40).
The day closed with the 400 Free Relay in which Ball State finished third. Andrew, Drew Weeks, Wolfred and McLarty clocked in at 3:11.75.
Next up for the Cardinals is a dual meet against Notre Dame and Michigan State in South Bend on February 1. The meet is scheduled to begin at Noon ET.
