MUNCIE, Ind. – While the Ball State women's basketball program will spend a lot of time on the road during its preconference slate, don't feel too sorry for the Cardinals as the 2019-20 schedule is highlighted by trips to the Bahamas Hoopfest (Nov. 28-29) and the Lobo Christmas Classic (Dec. 18-20) hosted by the University of New Mexico.
Under the direction of eighth-year head coach Brady Sallee, the Cardinals open the season with three consecutive road games, including back-to-back contests versus in-state opponents IUPUI (Nov. 5) and Purdue Fort Wayne (Nov. 12). Ball State concludes its first road swing of the season by traveling to Cincinnati (Nov. 16). The Cardinals defeated the Bearcats last year by a score of 75-63 to earn its first victory in the all-time series since the 1995-96 season.
"We are very excited about this year's schedule," said Sallee. "Playing in two tournaments will give us a lot of neutral court competition along with some incredible experiences in beautiful places that we hope will help our team grow as a unit. We always try to build a schedule that will prepare our team to compete for MAC championships and believe this slate will do just that. We look forward to getting it all started."
After opening the season with three straight road games, Ball State opens the home portion of its 2019-20 schedule with back-to-back home games against Xavier (Nov. 20) and Butler (Nov. 23).
Following its first-ever appearance in the Bahamas Hoopfest, where the Cardinals will face Lehigh (Nov. 28) and then Big Ten foe Wisconsin (Nov. 29), Ball State returns to Worthen Arena for a game against Western Kentucky (Dec. 7). Ball State took down the Lady Toppers last year in Bowling Green, Ky., in a thrilling, 86-83, victory in E.A. Diddle Arena.
Ball State then heads back on the road before the holiday break for the Lobo Christmas Classic where the Cardinals will play games against Loyola Marymount (Dec. 18), Providence (Dec. 19) and host New Mexico (Dec. 20).
Ball State ends the 2019 calendar year and closes its non-conference slate with a home game against Urbana (Dec. 30). The Cardinals ring in the new year and Mid-American Conference action in Worthen Arena on Jan. 4 versus Kent State. This MAC season, each conference team will play 18 games, nine at home and nine on the road over a 10-week span. Ball Sate will play a home-and-home series with all five divisional opponents, face each cross divisional program once and play a second game versus both Kent State and Buffalo. The Cardinals end the MAC regular season on the road at Western Michigan (March 4).
After that, the conference tournament will begin March 11 with first round games at home sites and then the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship games from March 13-15 in Cleveland, Ohio.
