MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State Associate Athletic Trainer Shawn Comer was presented with the Professional Excellence Award this afternoon by the Indiana Athletic Trainers' Association (IATA) at the organization's annual meeting in Carmel.
Â
Comer is completing his 23rd year as a full-time member of the Ball State staff and his 12th in his current role as associate athletic trainer. The Cardinal Sports Medicine Ring of Honor member (inducted 2009) leads the department's football athletic training efforts.
Â
Comer is the third Ball State staffer to receive the Professional Excellence honor, joining Tony Cox (2004) and Ball State Head Athletic Trainer Neal Hazen (2010). The award has been presented annually since 1988 to IATA members who demonstrate hard work, commitment and dedicated service to the IATA and the athletic training profession in the previous year.
Â
A 1990 graduate of Central Michigan, Comer spent two years as a graduate assistant at Ball State. He then began his professional career with stints at Butler and St. Joseph's (Ind.) before returning to Muncie in 1996.
