May 07, 2019 | Softball
CLEVELAND, Ohio- - After turning in one of the most impressive single game performances in program history, Ball State softball sophomore third baseman Stacy Payton has been named the final Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for the 2019 season.
Payton, who earns the honor for the first time in her career, tallied Ball State single game records with three home runs and eight RBIs in last Saturday's 10-0 (5) win over Oakland to end the regular season.
She blasted a two-run home run in the first inning, followed with her first career grand slam in the second and closed the day with another two-run shot in the fourth.
Payton, who also collected a single in the 4-3 opening-game victory at Purdue Fort Wayne, finished the day with a .667 batting average, a 2.167 slugging percentage and led the Cardinals in hits (4) and RBI (8), while tying for the team-lead in runs scored (3).
Payton and the sixth-seeded Ball State softball team open play in the 2019 MAC Softball Championship Wednesday evening with a 6 p.m. first pitch versus third-seeded Ohio.
