Newest Cardinal will compete for Ball State beginning this fall
Ball State gymnastics has added Marimar Perez-Banus to the program for the upcoming school year. A Chilean-born standout, Perez-Banus will join the Cardinals in fall 2019.
Head coach Joanna Saleem says Perez-Banus will be a great fit within the current roster and that her level of difficulty on bars is "exceptional."Â
"Marimar brings a lot of gymnastics experience with her, having competed internationally for the past three years," Saleem said. "Her competitive presence on beam is a joy to watch, and as an all-arounder she will bring a lot of depth to our team. I am looking forward to working with this sweet young lady. Her perspective on life comes from her vast experience with the world which is complimented by her wonderful personality. I think her maturity will allow her to transition into the college world smoothly."
Perez-Banus will officially come to Ball State after she competes at the Pan American Games in Peru this summer. She is competing for the Chilean National team at the event, which runs July 26 - Aug. 11.
While born in Chile, Perez-Banus grew up in Florida and attended NFC Academy and competed for the American Twisters club. While competing for Team Chile, she was the silver medalist at the South American Championships. She cites "a nice environment and a beautiful campus" as her reasons for choosing Ball State, and she plans to study finance. Â
