Softball’s Stacy Payton Earns All-Region Honors
May 16, 2019 | Softball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - Ball State softball sophomore third baseman Stacy Payton was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region Third Team as announced Thursday (May 16) by the NFCA.
"We're very proud of Stacy," head coach Megan Ciolli Bartlett said. "Thanks to her tremendous work ethic, she has developed into a legitimate power hitter on a national level. I'm so proud of the way Stacy represents this program and the best is yet to come!"
A starter in all 54 games this season, Payton led the Cardinals offense with a .318 batting average. She also finished the year ranked in the top 15 in the Mid-American Conference in RBIs (3rd / 43), home runs (8th / 9), slugging percentage (10th / .586), runs scored (11th / 33), doubles (11th / 11), triples (11th / 2), walks (11th / 26) and on base percentage (12th / .430).
A First Team All-MAC selection after leading the Ball State offense with a .392 batting average in league play, Payton was named the MAC Player of the Week following the final week of the regular season after setting Ball State single game records with three home runs and eight RBIs in a 10-0 (5) victory over Oakland (May 4).
Payton helped lead the Cardinals to a 34-20 overall record in 2019, with the 34 wins tying as the seventh-most in a season in program history.
Overall, 392 student-athletes from 163 programs received 2019 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades. The awards honor softball players from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for the 2019 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
