Women's Tennis Loses Tight Match On Senior Day

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team (15-5, 4-3 MAC) lost a tight 4-3 match to Akron (20-5, 5-2 MAC) Saturday afternoon at the Northwest YMCA Tennis Center.
The Cardinals paid tribute to their four seniors, Audrey Berger, Isabelle Dohanics, Peyton Gollhofer and Sarah Swiderski prior to today's match.
The doubles point came down to the wire as Akron would take the first win on the top court. After that, Ball State's No. 3 doubles tandem of Dohanics and Swiderski would beat the Zips Carla Flores and C. Garcias, 6-2 to even the score. Berger and junior Rebecca Herrington were very competitive at the No. 2 slot but unfortunately dropped the doubles point to Akron after losing 7-5 to Sophia Geier and Anna Uljanov.
Things were looking up for the Cardinals in singles action as Herrington posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Rita Pedroso on court four to knot the match at 1-1. Berger had fought her way back on the top court over Geier after dropping the first set but went on to lose 6-2 in the third frame.
The remaining four courts were all in third sets, making the match a nail biter for both teams. Swiderski fell suffered a loss at position three to make it a 3-2 match for the Zips. The win would come down to courts one and five. Gollhofer played her heart out after dropping set one 6-2 she came back to send the match into a third frame. But Miruna Vasilescu held on to take the match and the victory for Akron.
Dohanics ended the day for the Cardinals on a high note after posting a three set thriller over the Zips Luisa Echeverry.
The Ball State women's tennis team awaits its seeding for the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament which will be announced Sunday afternoon. This year's MAC Tournament will be played in Buffalo, N.Y. from April 26-28.
