Women’s Tennis Earns 6-1 Road Win At Azusa Pacific
March 07, 2019 | Women's Tennis
AZUSA, Calif. – The Ball State women's tennis team won its first spring break match in California Thursday, after posting a 6-1 victory over Division II nationally ranked No. 12 Azusa Pacific at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Cardinals improved their overall record to 9-2 while Azusa Pacific dropped to 5-3.
Ball State began the day with taking the doubles point from the Cougar's. On the top court, Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington earned a 6-2 win over Kara Hinton and Courtney Page. Azusa Pacific then took court three from the Cardinals leaving one doubles tandem remaining. It was no surprise that the dynamic duo of Victoria Sec and Sarah Swiderski, who have only lost one doubles match this season, would clinch the point for the Cardinals with their 7-5 defeat on court two.
In singles play, Herrington continued her winning ways after the doubles competition and was the first off the court with a 6-1, 6-0, take down over April Wong at position four. Lilya Hadab then cruised past Audrey Stewart, taking the first set 6-4 and then would shut Stewart out in the second for the win at the No. 6 spot. Peyton Gollhofer remained undefeated in dual action this spring, by claiming match point for Ball State after beating Anna Savchenko on court three, 6-3, 6-0. With the win, Gollhofer improves to 9-0 on the season.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues spring break action in California when its plays at the University of California Riverside Saturday at 11 a.m. PT/2 p.m. ET.
