March 29, 2019 | Women's Tennis
HAMILTON, Ohio – The Cardinals (12-4, 1-2 MAC) dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker in Mid-American Conference action this afternoon at Miami University (5-10, 2-1 MAC).
The match went down to the wire, as the score was tied for the third time at 3-3 with just the top court remaining. Senior Audrey Berger dropped the first set 6-3 against the RedHawks' Brindtha Ramasamy. Berger fought back to take the second frame from Ramasamy, 6-4, sending the match into a three set thriller. Ramasamy went on to claim match point after winning in the third, 6-3.
Ball State dropped the opening point to Miami after suffering losses on courts three and one. The Cardinals had a close match going on both courts but the RedHawks managed to pull away for the victories. It was only the third time this season that the Cardinals had lost the doubles point to their respective opponent.
The Cardinals came back with a vengeance early on in singles play, taking first sets on four out of the six courts from Miami. Junior Rebecca Herrington knotted the match 1-1 after a straight set (6-2, 6-3) take down over Priyana Kalita at the No. 4 spot. The RedHawks took back the lead after BSU senior Sarah Swiderski dropped both sets by a score of 6-3 at position two.
After that, the match continued to be a nail-biter with three courts going into third sets and senior Isabelle Dohancis up 6-4, 4-3 at the No. 5 spot. She held on for the win over Makenzie Myers to tie the match for the second time against Miami.
Unfortunately, Sec fell at No. 6 in three sets, giving the RedHawks back the lead. With two matches remaining, Gollhofer was in good shape as she was dominating the third frame, she went on to defeat Emily Struble on court three, 6-1.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues Mid-American Conference action Sunday at home against Bowling Green. First serve will be at 1 p.m. at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center, weather permitting. If inclement weather occurs, Ball State will move its match against the Falcons indoors at the Northwest YMCA Tennis Center.
