Kelsey Walters Named MAC Field Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - - For the first time in her career, Ball State track & field junior thrower Kelsey Walters has been named the Mid-American Conference Field Athlete of the Week.

Walters earned the honor after winning the shot put with a distance of 14.02m at last Saturday's Stan Lyons Invitational hosted by Butler.

"Congratulations to Kelsey on her well-earned recognition," head coach Brian Etelman said. "She did an awesome job of performing well in bad weather conditions. It's early in the season and we look forward to her continuing to improve as we get closer to the MAC Championship meet."

With her mark of 14.02m in the first outdoor meet of the season, Walters ranks first in the MAC and 57th nationally in the shot put.

Walters and the Ball State track & field team will look to take advantage of some much-improved weather conditions this weekend when the team travels to the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational. The two-day event begins at 4 p.m. Friday and concludes Saturday at the Vanderbilt Track & Field Complex.
