Cards reach 10 dual-meet wins, most since 2002
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Stefanie Schweikert's vault and Kaitlyn Menzione's floor led the Ball State gymnastics team on Sunday at Michigan State. In the process, BSU finished one of its most successful regular seasons this century.
Schweikert tied for first place with 9.825 on vault. The freshman from Ohio is ranked second in the MAC in the event with a regional qualifying score of 9.830. It was the fourth time this season she's been a top scorer in vault. Menzione continues to score 9.900 consistently on the floor. Her routine was the top mark of Sunday's meet and she's now scored a 9.900 on the floor in four consecutive meets.
"Well deserved," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "Menz's floor routine was really excited and we're happy to see her perform so well. Stef stuck her vault well. It was a wonderful performance. I'm really happy with our team - they did a great job. They stayed together and did a really solid job."

In dual head-to-head scoring this season, Ball State finished the regular season with 10 wins. That's the most since 2002, or when this year's seniors were four years old.
"The level of difficulty we're putting out there is comparable to Big Ten schools and all of the schools in the MAC have risen. We've been able to increase our depth and star power and now we're seeing that in wins and being very close in scoring to Big Ten schools."Â
The meet featured high-level vault scores, as 10 different gymnasts reached 9.750 or better.Â
Ball State totaled 194.850 on the day and led the meet scoring for much of the day. Michigan State finished the meet with a 48.900 on the floor to finish first in the team scoring. BSU has scored 194.575 or better in seven consecutive meets and are riding high heading into next week's MAC Gymnastics Championships at NIU.
"Today was a nice practice meet for us leading into MACs," Saleem said. It was loud and there were four teams and we stayed focused so we're excited about that."
